I know we are a victim but what is the name of the theft or crime.?

My wife runs a small store that sells general merchandise I pick up at auctions and yard sales. A guy came into the store and sold her a couple items for $200 that turned out to be stolen. When the police picked up the items she requested he put in his report a request for restitution. He stated your not the victim and walked out. She had no intent to purchase stolen property and we are out $200! Clearly we are a victim. But before we start making calls I need to know what type of crime victim we are? Is it theft? Fraud? etc?
